CPU Cooler upgrade

Last weekend I upgraded my CPU Cooler from the stock Intel cooler to a XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 with a XIGMATEK ACK-I5361 Intel Core i7/Core i5 compatible Bracket Set.

Here is what the cooler looks like:

Unfortunately I didn’t carefully record temperatures before installing the cooler.

The installation of the cooler seemed easy enough at first, but I ran into difficulties which caused the installation to end up taking most of the day!  The first problem was that I installed the Cooler backwards so that the fan would be directing air toward the front of the computer!  The second problem was that the cooling vanes seemed to be installed upside down so that I was unable to get the air flow deflector supplied to snap into place.  It eventually did but I’m not quite sure how!

The third problem was that attaching the fan to the cooling vanes with the supplied rubber mounts was very tricky, but once I figured out the method, it was not that difficult.

The next problem was that I installed the cooler with the fan already mounted, only to discover that I was then unable to access two of the screws used to secure the cooler to the motherboard.

Now that I have successfully installed it, I’m pleased with how quiet it is.  I can barely tell an audible difference between running at slow speed and the fastest speed that it has attained!

I tried a little bit of overclocking but after experiencing problems (I forget what) I reverted to the factory settings for the CPU.
